I was born and raised in a tight-knit community in Flint, Michigan. My best friends from nursery school are still my best friends today.

My parents fostered in me a great appreciation for steadfast relationships, my heritage, building bridges between cultures and the power of words. I am still driven by these values today.

As a child, I was an avid reader and storyteller, writing poems, plays and creating characters, who would then entertain my family on long road trips.

During college at The University of Michigan, I pursued a degree in both English Literature and Theater Performance. I spent my 20s and 30s working in communications by day and acting by night, but rarely made time for personal writing.

Then at 36, I found myself in the midst of a crisis. With a 16-month-old baby, my marriage suddenly ended. I turned to writing to help me cope and found a renewed passion for using words as a way to connect with others. Now in my 40s, I am exploring life, one word at a time.
